MGTalk running on PalmOS 5

Prepare to be amazed! (or at least interested)

I have gotten MGTalk running nearly flawlessly on PalmOS 5 Garnet, on my T|X. I also have screenshots. Everything seems to work as it should, and of course some form of internet connection must be available. The graphics are still in their low-res phone sizes, so they look blocky on the TX’s high resolution screen. That’s only minor, though. Everything else works as it should, though I’m more used to the input area being at the bottom of the window, and the newer text also appearing at the bottom.

To run it on any PalmOS device you must have both a working internet connection and the IBM WebSphere Java environment, a free download for anyone with a fairly recent Palm model. Anyways, here are the screens:

The buddy list, in big screen view.

Chattin’ with an offline guy.

Oddly enough, you can talk to yourself through MGTalk. Good display of big screen support.

Aside from the fact that I had too much fun with this, you also get widescreen support. Yummy.

Some errors I have experienced on the TX:

1. The program freezes and my Palm must be reset.
2. The TX claims that an error has occured in the application and asks to quit. MGTalk still works when I click on it again, and hasn’t crashed since.

This is definately worth having on my TX - I’d rather have it there than on any cell phone anyday. Perhaps full PalmOS 5 support (through Java) could come eventually? I know it’s a hefty request for the developer, and considering that MGTalk already works fine with the device it may be a stretch to ask for it, however a few more options might be nice. Choosing where to place the text input area (top or bottom) and how the chat windows shows new text (up or down) would be two good new options to add. Thanks, MGTalk developer(s), for a great program!

(And yes, this is a fixed up version of the email I sent to them. :B)
